Images from the 2004 Race Across Oregon

Imagine riding along beautiful Oregon back country roads, through lush forests and among the incredible fossil formations along the John Day River. Now imagine doing this 532 mile ride in 34 hours and 36 minutes through freezing rains, over 38,000 feet of elevation gain, living off of Slimfast and Cytomax and without sleeping. If you think that sounds like fun, then the Race Across Oregon is for you! Because this is what Graham Pollock of Folsom, California experienced in order to be the first solo finisher at the 2004 Race Across Oregon.

The 2004 Race Across Oregon was a grueling 532 mile race beginning at the Portland Airport Holiday Inn at 5am on Saturday, June 5. Along with 50 other solo and team riders, including notables Cassie Lowe, Gregg Geser, Chris Grealish and Allesandro Colo, Graham rode east across the Cascades, along the Deschutes River, through the John Day Fossil Beds and eventually finishing at the Village of Government Camp at 3:36pm on Sunday, June 6. The drizzly early morning start was followed by a cold rainy climb up Mt. Hood. The eastern Cascades brought relief from the rain, but not from the climbing. Beautiful, green scenery was broken up by rocky formations and rolling terrain. The night climb through Ochoco National Forest was punctuated by the sound of river below. And, while the final 6 mile climb up to the Timberline Lodge had to be diverted due to the unexpected 4 inches of snow at the top, one challenge was substituted for another as a freezing, view obscuring rain confronted riders along the heavily trafficked highway to the finish.

These images were taken by Chris Gale, Ken Holloway, and Lynn Katano as they crewed for Graham Pollock.  Enjoy your race across Oregon with solo winner Graham Pollock!

2004 SCNCA State Time Trial Championships

Team Velo Sport and Rock N' Road Cyclery hosted the 2004 Southern California Nevada Cycling Association Time Trial State Championships on June 19th at Lake Los Angeles.  The course was a fast 40K with four right hand turns. These images capture many of the Elite and Tandem riders.

2004 Davis Double Century

The 35th annual Davis Double Century greeted 1,000 riders with spectacular riding conditions. Always a favorite among the double riders, the DDC once again lived up to its reputation as the most popular double century in all of California.

2004 Eastern Sierra Double Century

Near perfect conditions greeted 250 riders as they headed out of Bishop for the 2004 edition of this classic double century.  While the winds became "testy" the moderate temperatures were just what people needed as they made the final push up to Sage Hen Summit.
